Have a Nice Life is an American experimental rock band founded in Connecticut in 2000 by Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga. They are known for their unique style of post-punk, which includes elements of shoegazing, post-rock, industrial, ambient and drone.
Since then, Have a Nice Life have released their second record, 'The Unnatural World', on the Flenser, who have kindly helped them reissue the monolithic 'Deathconsciousness' too: the huge booklet remains, and so does the ridiculously ambitious record it was made for.
It's typical Have a Nice Life, something fans will recognise and feel serviced by after the six long years between records, but there's a different quality to it: the gloom is less insistent, and Barrett's steady vocals are impartial amongst the torrential soundscaping.
Rhythmic, primal and expansive, DEATHCONSCIOUSNESS offers a meditation on death, loss and unrequited love, with repeated listens revealing new layers of depth and meaning. The accompanying fanzine details the dark and forgotten history of the Antiochean cult - an engrossing narrative that blurs the lines between liner notes, novella and academic text.
